Every business that sells taxable goods or services must register with each state in which it is required to collect sales tax and, once registered, must file periodic returns and remit the taxes it collects. Dappr offers two complementary services to simplify this process: Sales Tax Registration, a one‑time filing service that establishes your tax accounts with state and local authorities, and Sales Tax Filing & Remittance, a pay‑as‑you‑go service that keeps you compliant after registration by preparing your returns, submitting them on time, and transferring the collected taxes to each jurisdiction.
Why sales‑tax compliance matters
Failure to register or file on time can trigger penalties, interest, and, in severe cases, personal liability for the owners of the business. Staying current also preserves your ability to maintain resale certificates, prevents interruptions to marketplace accounts, and keeps you in good standing for future financing. Dappr’s services are designed to take this administrative burden off your plate so you can stay focused on running and growing your business.
Sales Tax Registration Service
When you purchase the registration service, Dappr’s filings team prepares and submits the initial registration applications for your business with the state and local tax authority you've selected. We rely on the business details you provide—such as legal name, EIN, primary business address, ownership information, and the effective start date for taxable sales—to populate each application accurately. Once a jurisdiction issues your permit or account number, we upload the confirmation documents to your Dappr dashboard and notify you by email.
Pricing and state fees
Dappr charges a $99 one‑time service fee for each registration application we submit. This fee covers our preparation and filing work, but it does not include the amounts the state or locality charges to create your account. Any state‑imposed registration fees are passed through at cost and billed to the payment method on file.
Your authorization
At checkout you grant Dappr and its designated representatives limited power to act on the company’s behalf for the purpose of completing sales‑tax registrations. The authorization is governed by our Filing Services Agreement, which you accept when you place the order.
Sales Tax Filing & Remittance Service
Registration alone does not satisfy ongoing compliance obligations. Every jurisdiction assigns a filing frequency—monthly, quarterly, or annual—based on your projected or actual sales. Dappr’s Filing & Remittance service automates the continuous work that follows registration.
How the service works
Once activated, we:
Monitor each jurisdiction’s filing calendar and assemble the data needed for every return.
Hold collected sales‑tax funds in a dedicated reserve ledger linked to your Dappr Financial Account, keeping those funds separate from your operating cash.
Prepare the return according to the jurisdiction’s rules, submit it electronically where available, and schedule an ACH debit or electronic funds transfer to satisfy the liability.
Post a copy of the stamped return and payment confirmation to your dashboard for easy record‑keeping.
Pay‑as‑you‑go pricing
The service is billed only when a return is actually filed. You pay $49 for each state or local return plus 1.5% of each tax reserve refill transaction. Because pricing is usage‑based, there is no ongoing subscription fee, and costs scale naturally with your tax footprint.
Funding the reserve account
On or shortly after each settlement day for card, ACH, or other payments processed through Dappr, we sweep the sales‑tax portion of those transactions into a dedicated reserve account. If you accept payments outside Dappr, you can move the tax portion into the ledger from your Dappr account. Whenever Dappr notices that you've collected taxes outside of our payment processing system (such as by marking an invoice as paid), the system will attempt to fund the tax reserve account automatically using your Dappr Financial Account. To fund a sales tax reserve account manually, navigate to Sales > Balances > Tax reserves. Maintaining an adequate reserve ensures returns are paid on time and eliminates last‑minute cash‑flow surprises.
Timely filing guarantee
Dappr files each return by the statutory due date, provided the reserve account is sufficiently funded and we have received complete transaction data at least 10 business days before the deadline. If the ledger is sufficiently funded, and we cause a late filing or payment, we cover the penalties and interest attributable to our delay.
Changing or cancelling the service
You may add or remove jurisdictions, or discontinue the service altogether, by contacting Dappr's support team. Cancellations take effect immediately.
Working with both services together
Most customers purchase registration and filing & remittance in the same order so compliance is continuous from the moment the first permit is issued. When bundled, your authorization covers both the initial registrations and every subsequent filing action. The one‑time registration fee is billed when the order is placed, while filing charges are assessed only as returns become due.
If you prefer to start with registration alone, you can add filing & remittance at any time from your dashboard once your accounts are active.
Accepting the Filing Services Agreement
Both services are subject to the Dappr Filing Services Agreement, which sets out our respective responsibilities, treatment of funds in the reserve ledger, data‑security commitments, and limitations of liability. You accept the agreement by checking the consent box (or clicking the Agree & Continue button) during checkout.
